Need to use public transport to get to family and friends this Christmas? Or rely on the trains or buses to get to work?

Here's our guide to the bus and trains services operating in Dorset to help you make plans over the festive period.

Morebus

The M1 and M2 will be running on Christmas Day between 8am and 8pm which will be extended to Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Christchurch.

Special fares will apply on the day with an adult single ticket priced at £4 and a return costing £6. A child single will cost £3 and a return is £5. All period and concessionary passes will be valid on Christmas Day.

On Boxing Day, Sunday timetables will operate on the M1 and M2 services with the first buses running from 6am.

The 4, 5/6, 8/9, 13, 14, 16/17, X3, X8 and Purbeck Breezer 40 and 50 services will also run.

On December 27 to 29, a normal Saturday timetable will run on all routes except the

X1, X2, 24, 38, 112, 119, 125, 191/193 and Cango will run to a Monday to Friday timetable.

On December 30, a normal Saturday timetable will run across all routes.

New Year’s Eve revellers will be able to catch the N1 and N2 nightbuses home in the early hours of the morning with last services running between 3.30am and 4.43am.

A normal Sunday timetable will be in operation during the day.

While, New Year’s Day will see special timetables running on the M1 and M2 services as well as the 5, 8/9, 13, 16/17 and X3.

Yellow Buses

On Yellow Buses, a normal Sunday service will be in operation on Christmas Eve with most last buses running between 5pm and 6pm. The last service of the day will be the 7.08pm from Bournemouth Airport.

No buses will run on Christmas Day with a special service on selected routes on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

The routes that will be operating to a special timetable are the B1, B3, P1, P23, P3, R1, R2, R3, U6, V1 and V2.

From December 27 to 30, a Saturday service will operate across all routes.

On New Year’s Eve, there will be a normal Sunday service with operations coming to a close around 6pm.

Normal service will resume on January 2.

The X37 and X38 services will not operate between December 23 and January 1.

South Western Railway

Major engineering work taking place in the Southampton area starting on Christmas Eve. The line between Southampton Airport Parkway and Southampton Central will be closed between December 24 and January 1.

Passengers are being urged to avoid travelling on Christmas Eve and be prepared for longer journey times between Christmas and New Year.

Buses will replace trains between Southampton Central and Southampton Airport Parkway, affecting journeys between London, Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth.

Normal service is set to resume on Tuesday, January 2.

Journeys on Sunday, December 10 and Sunday, December 17 will also be affected by the work and passengers are advised to check times and travel arrangements in advance.
