PERCY Road will continue to be shut - taking the total closure to over ten months.

The road will stay closed for several more weeks as Wessex Water carry out essential monitoring work. The road was originally sealed off to traffic after parts of the tarmac subsided in September 2016.

Engineers have previously carried out repairs to the road following ground subsidence and damage to the surface.

Since those repairs, Wessex Water has been monitoring ground surfaces and sewers.

Following this monitoring, project manager Joe Edmunds has confirmed that a further period of assessment is required on safety grounds.

He said: “The road closures will remain in Percy Road and Watkin Road while this monitoring work is carried out. This is in the interest of safety.

“While the road is closed motorists should follow the official diversion route, which is via Michelgrove Road, Boscombe Cliff Road and Byron Road.

“We appreciate that Percy Road has now been closed for a considerable period of time, but we need to establish whether further works are necessary or the road can be fully reinstated and re-opened.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused by our work and thank residents and motorists for their continued patience and cooperation.”
