WESSEX Water is awaiting the results of surveys before finalising work in a Bournemouth road which has been closed since October last year.

Percy Road in Boscombe was sealed off to traffic after parts of the tarmac subsided in September, a familiar site to local residents who saw the road closed off for several months in 2012 for similar reasons.

The water firm, which runs the town's sewerage services, said it had identified a crack in the 'coastal interceptor sewer' and the flow had to be diverted along the Boscombe clifftops while repairs were carried out.

The company says its sewer repairs were completed four weeks ahead of schedule, and the overland pipe was removed in late March.

The road closure was originally scheduled to end on Thursday this week, however, work is still under way on the road itself to prevent further subsidence.

A spokesman said: “Percy Road remains closed due to ground subsidence and damage to the road surface and we’re awaiting the results of geophysical surveys.

“We thank residents for their patience and co-operation and will keep them informed of any developments.”

Wessex Water project manager Joe Edwards told the Daily Echo the firm's engineers are working "extended hours, including weekends" to complete the work.
