A HOTEL that has stood derelict for 15 years could now be demolished to make way for something new.

The Cliff End Hotel, owned by Meyrick Estate, has been empty since 2002 and was ravaged by fire in 2012.

It has been subjected to squatters and vandalism and used for fly-tipping over the years.

Neighbouring residents of the Manor Road property have complained to their ward councillors that the "eyesore" is dangerous and have been growing increasingly upset about the abandoned property.

Phil Stanley-Watts, neighbouring ward councillor, said: "I keep getting residents complaining about it.

"Many people are really fed up with the situation. It's an appalling state. It's a complete eyesore and a danger in terms of health and safety."

Now the site could be demolished to make way for something new.

Ward councillor Michael Filer said he had heard that Bournemouth council had given permission for the building to come down and officers were in separate negotiations with Meyrick Estate about its possible replacement.

However, the council confirmed no such permission had been given.

Andrew England, head of planning and regulation, said: “At this stage all we can say is that we are currently in active discussions with the owner of the site and are optimistic that a proposal for the site might be presented in the near future.”

A spokesperson for Meyrick Estate was unwilling to confirm any details of the plans at the time of going to press.

"We are pleased to confirm ongoing discussions with Bournemouth Borough Council planning officers to find a suitable solution for the Cliff End site," the spokesperson said.

Councillor Filer said: "Next door is Keverstone Court - 132 flats - and they have all had over a decade of this rotten building. "They really are upset by this. We have been talking to the Meyrick set up and had informal meetings with their advisors. They keep promising to do things but nothing much has happened.

"We have had dozens and dozens of residents complaining about the horrific state of the building.

"We are always making apologies for the Meyrick Estate. We have become very jaundiced from the precatory remarks. We have had a series of meetings and it is always promises after promises but it's up to Meyrick to give proper plans. They just don't make progress.

"We are hopeful but getting very disillusioned."
