THE liquidators of the firm behind Boscombe’s failed £3million surf reef have still been unable to contact the man who was at the helm - four years after the company ceased trading.

In its latest six monthly report, the New Zealand arm of PricewaterhouseCoopers said it had completed its investigations into the firm ASR.

But it had remained unsuccessful in contacting director Nick Behunin, who is understood to be in America, where he has been for several years.

Liquidators said they had also been unable to contact anyone at the majority shareholder in ASR, Sealutions LLC, which was run by Mr Behunin.

The report says PWC will now refer Mr Behunin to the New Zealand authorities to consider whether he should be barred from being a company director.

The report shows that after deducting the liquidators fees, ASR has less than 15,000 Australian dollars in the bank.

Bournemouth Borough Council is still owed £15,000 by the company.

The reef, made of 55 giant sandbags, opened in 2009 after lengthy delays. It promised large waves that would bring surfers from across Britain, but was barely used.

It closed two years later after one of the bags became damaged.

Bournemouth Echo: Revealed: "Disastrous" gap in £3m surf reef

ASR said it had been split by a boat propeller and had been due to return to Bournemouth to repair it. But the work was never done and the company ceased trading less than a year later.

Mr Behunin is still listed on Facebook as being in Venice, California, where he helped set up an echo charity called Seathos.

Last year he was featured in the Los Angeles Business Journal after filing a law suit over investments in Sealutions and Seathos. (Read that here)

PWC's Tony Pattison has urged anyone with contact details for Mr Behunin to get in touch.
