A BOSCOMBE bar is calling on pub-goers to vote for its beer garden to be crowned the best in the UK.

Chaplin’s in Christchurch Road is one of just ten finalists to be shortlisted to win Britain’s Best Beer Garden 2016, organised by SME Insurance, which specialises in the pub and hospitality sector.

With competition including The Queen’s Arms in Somerset, the Barley Mow in Portsmouth, and The Belle Vue Tavern in Ramsgate, Kent, Chaplin’s needs local people to help it win the top accolade by voting online before midnight on Sunday, September 25.

Geoff Popple, general manager of Chaplin’s, said the team were “honoured” to be in the running for the title.

“We always take great pride in our garden as it’s a place for people to relax.

“It’s very different – there’s loads of artwork on display from many graffiti artists who are big in the area. The main piece is based on the Green Man legend and the beard is made out of old vines.

“We also have a pond out there and all the furniture is reclaimed. There are old cinema seats in the undercover smoking area.”

Owner Harry Seccombe said the garden was designed by his fiancée, Vivienne Hoffman, to "inspire creativity".

"It's great to get to the final as we've put in a lot of hard work to make it look great," he added.

Geoff added the garden was open all year round, with half of the space under shelter and heaters provided too.

The winning beer garden will be based on the highest number of public votes, coupled with the decision of an independent judging panel comprising industry experts from pub trade magazine The Morning Advertiser, the British Beer and Pub Association, and the Two Thirsty Gardeners blog.

The winner will also receive a professional shoot of their pub garden, and the top three pubs will each receive a commemorative plaque to mark their achievement.

Jonathan Webber, commercial director of SME Insurance, said: “Britain’s Best Beer Garden has certainly captured the imagination of the nation’s pub goers and publicans. We have been absolutely delighted by the quality and wealth of entries we’ve received from classic traditional country pubs through to modern city centre bars.

“It’s now up to the public and our independent judging panel to decide the winner, so we urge everyone to vote online to increase the chances of their favourite pub being crowned the champion.”
