A DRUG dealer who ran from a car stopped by police has been jailed.

Aqtab Bakhtiyar, 22 and of Cranbrook Road, Poole, admitted two counts of possession with intent to supply class A drugs and one count of possession of cannabis at Bournemouth Crown Court.

He has now been sentenced to two years in prison.

The court heard police stopped a suspicious vehicle in Pottery Road on Sunday, April 23 last year when the rear-seat passenger - Bakhtiyar - attempted to run off.

He was apprehended a short distance away. Officers carried out a search and found cannabis, cocaine and heroin in his rucksack and coat.

Detective Constable Ben Swain, of Bournemouth CID, said: "We are committed to tackling drug dealing in our communities and putting offenders such as Bakhtiyar before the courts.

"Drug dealing, drug taking and its associated crimes cause misery throughout the community at a variety of levels.

"I would ask that anyone who has concerns about drug dealing or drug use in their community to contact Dorset Police so we can take action and bring offenders to justice."
