A LARGE group of youths were reportedly throwing stones at passing cars in Upton on Saturday night.

Police were called at 9.50pm following reports of the incident near the doctors’ surgery.

Officers spoke to the group and attempted to issue a dispersal notice under 'Section 35 of the Crime and Policing Act 2014' to a 16-year-old member of the group.

The person refused to give his details after being asked several times.

It is an offence for anyone to refuse details to an officer under Section 50 of the Police Reform Act 2002, when involved in any kind of anti-social behaviour and the person was arrested.

A second member of the group remonstrated with police and was also arrested.

Purbeck Police have residents in Upton that they will be treating incidents of this nature “very seriously”.

A spokesperson for Purbeck Police said: “Thankfully incidents of this escalation are rare. We have been and will continue to concentrate Police patrols in this area.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police by calling 101.
