DRIVERS without insurance were caught at the wheel by Dorset Police's No Excuse team on Valentine's Day.

Four drivers were stopped by the team on Wednesday night during routine inspections in Bournemouth and Boscombe.

Officers said one driver had admitted to buying their car, claiming they couldn't insure it as it cost £22,000 a year.

The vehicle was seized and driver fined £300 and given six points.

Another driver of an Audi TT discovered he had failed to renew his insurance in January. He received the same penalty.

A young male motorcyclist on a Yamaha bike with no L plates was also pulled over. Checks revealed he had no insurance and his MOT expired in June 2016.

The rider admitted to not keeping up with payments, and as he already had points on a provisional licence he was reported to court for no insurance, no MOT and not displaying L plates.

Lastly, the team pulled over a Volkswagen Golf and discovered the person driving had no licence and therefore no insurance.

The owner of the vehicle and insured party, was sat in the passenger seat.

When asked why he was driving, the man said he was "testing it out".

A spokesperson for the No Excuse team said the man was still paying a fine from a previous offence.

He has been reported to court and could be disqualified.
