A DANGEROUS driver who injured a woman and her young son in a head-on crash has been banned from the roads.

Adam Hobie White was speeding at more than 60 miles an hour in Blandford Road North, Poole in the moments before the collision on Thursday, January 5 2017.

The 27-year-old, who was behind the wheel of a grey Audi A1, approached the roundabout at the junction with the A35 Upton Bypass close behind another car.

The driver of the car in front said the Audi suddenly overtook at speed before cutting across her to exit onto the A350.

A woman driving a Ford Galaxy with her five-year-old son in the back was approaching the roundabout from the A350 when she saw the Audi exiting at speed and on the wrong side of the road.

The Audi hit the Ford head-on.

White, the woman and her son were all taken to hospital for treatment after the incident. The woman suffered severe bruising and muscle damage, and had to spend four nights in hospital.

Her son suffered concussion and had to spend the night in hospital.

White, of Lake Avenue in Poole, sustained breaks to his pelvis, leg and knee.

An air ambulance, three double-manned land ambulances and a rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene.

White was convicted of dangerous driving at Bournemouth Crown Court and sentenced to eight months in prison suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and pay £2,400 in compensation, and was disqualified from driving for two years. Before he can be issued with a licence again, White must take an extended driving test.

PC Dave Cotterill, of Dorset Police's traffic unit, said: “This was an extremely reckless piece of driving by White and it is fortunate that his actions did not result in even more serious and tragic consequences.

“Motorists need to be aware that they are responsible for a potentially lethal machine every time they get behind the wheel of a car and should drive safely.

“Dorset Police is committed to keeping our roads safe for all users and is determined to take appropriate action against those who pose a risk to others.”
