A MAN arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a pedestrian was mown down by a car in Poole has been released under investigation.

Police have called for anyone with CCTV footage to come forward after the incident, which happened at around 12.30am in Lindsay Road.

The victim was in the driveway of The Oasis, a block of luxury flats, when he was hit by a silver Mercedes A-Class.

The car was then driven away from the scene.

However, the driver returned around 10 minutes later.

The pedestrian, a Poole man in his 30s, was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, including broken bones.

Detectives investigating the incident say the victim and the driver are believed to be known to each other.

A 50-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Detective Sergeant Andy Haworth, of Bournemouth CID, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident to try and establish exactly what happened.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any further information that can assist our investigation to contact police immediately.

"I would also like to hear from anyone who might have CCTV or dashcam footage covering the area at the relevant time.”

Residents living in flats close to the scene spoke of their shock.

Retiree David Lane said: “We do have problems with people racing their cars up and down Lindsay Road.

“It’s a straight, wide road and sometimes you can hear tyres screeching and engines revving.”

One man said: “The police came around this morning to see if I knew anything but I didn’t hear a thing.

“The street light directly outside has been out for a little while so it’s very dark in that stretch once the sun sets.”
