Police received reports that a Mercedes Sprinter panel van in Wellington Road had been targeted sometime between 9.30pm on November 2 and 6.55am on November 3.
Offenders smashed the front window of the vehicle and a wallet and iPhone 7 plus was stolen.
The victim subsequently informed Dorset Police that his credit card was used at a nearby store.
An investigation is underway, including CCTV enquiries. No arrests have been made.
A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “Dorset Police would like to remind members of the public not to leave valuables in their vehicles, even if they are hidden from view.”
