OFFICERS from Dorset Police's No Excuses team faced a busy weekend as thousands headed to the coast.

The female driver of an uninsured green Ford Focus told police: "Can't afford it, I haven't received my benefits yet, but I'll drive it home now."

The insurance ran out in March, while the vehicle's MOT had also expired, officers say. The Ford was seized by police and its driver received six points and a £300 fine.

However, the driver already had six points on her licence and is facing a ban from the roads.

A BMW driver stopped for having no insurance was "adamant" that the vehicle was covered, and said he had been with the same company for four years.

Further police checks showed his insurance had expired on May 1 this year.

The driver then logged into his internet banking to check the direct debit, only to realise his last payment had been in April 2016, police say.

Further calls to the insurance company confirmed that the driver had failed to accept the renewal price.

The driver was issued with six points and £300 and his BMW was seized.

Officers then pulled over a motorist in a red Toyota Corolla for "failing to pay attention to the road in regards to speed".

The car's MOT had expired in March 2017.

When the vehicle was pulled over, the driver said: "I never thought of the MOT, I got it last year and thought it was sorted."

The Toyota's front tyre also had no tread and the motorist received a ticket.

Officers later stopped a vehicle speeding at 57 miles per hour in a 40mph stretch of Ringwood Road near the Bearcross roundabout.

The driver, who told police, "My daughter has tennis practice and she was going to miss it", has been issued with three points and a £100 fine.

An investigation was also launched after a crash in Bath Road, Bournemouth.

Officers say a motorcyclist was knocked off his bike, suffering a "nasty gash" to his leg.

The casualty was treated at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and investigations into the incident continue.
