A MAN accused of shattering a serving soldier’s jaw in an “unprovoked” attack has been found not guilty of causing grievous bodily harm.

Caleb Johnson, of Fraser Road in Poole, went on trial at Bournemouth Crown Court last week.

Prosecutors alleged he had broken Luke Taafe’s jawbone with a single “roundhouse” punch at Cameo Nightclub in Fir Bale Road on December 5, 2015.

However, jurors later found him not guilty by a majority after six hours and 45 minutes of deliberations.

It had been heard that Mr Taafe has no memory of the incident. Johnson, 23, chose not to give evidence.

However, CCTV footage of the incident was shown to jurors by the defence.

Security staff working at the club were initially alerted by the DJ to two groups of people pushing each other on the dancefloor, the court heard.

One member of staff, Jacob Knowles, said he separated the parties. However, one of the men – alleged by prosecutors to be Johnson – then lashed out and struck Mr Taafe, it was heard.
