POLICE in Dorset charged 54 people with drink or drug driving during their Christmas and New Year campaign.

The figure is six more than last year and more than 50 per cent higher than in 2014 when 35 people were charged.

The latest campaign ran between December 1 and January 1 and involved roadside checks as well as intelligence-led initiatives.

Those charged are due to appear before magistrates in Bournemouth and Weymouth this month.
