A MAN has been arrested following a police pursuit through Sandford on Sunday evening.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said that a suspicious vehicle was seen at 8.50pm at the Bakers Arms Roundabout in Poole.

The silver VW Passat was seen travelling along the A351 through Sandford and the driver was requested to stop and pull over when it got to the roundabout by the Wareham train station flyover.

The vehicle continued back towards Sandford and was discovered abandoned a short time later at Morden Roundabout near The Sandford Pub after it hit a fence on Forest Edge Road.

The driver of the car failed to stop at the scene.

Following a search involving police dogs and the NPAS police helicopter, the alleged driver of the car was found near to the Sandford fuelling station.

Police Constable Susan Tagg, of Weymouth police, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the vehicle being driven in the area to please contact Dorset Police.

“We have been informed the vehicle may have been travelling with a black BMW car at some point and I would like to hear from anyone who knows who was driving either the Passat or BMW.”

A 25-year-old man from Poole has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences and theft of a motor vehicle. He is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
