A father and daughter have appeared in court charged with attacking a man with such ferocity he had to have his jaw rewired.

David Scott, 47, of Winchester and Amelia Scott, 25, of Stourcliffe Avenue, Bournemouth, deny causing Michael Donnellan grievous bodily harm with intent on June 28, last year at a bus stop in Poole.

The jury heard how Michael Donnellan had “slapped” his then girlfriend at the bus stop following a heated argument that began a short while earlier at the Jolly Sailor pub.

Prosecutor Tom Wright told the jury Mr Donnellan may have been “an author of his own misfortune” and showed the jury CCTV footage of the attack, both on Mr Donnellan’s girlfriend by him and then the subsequent attack on him by the dad and daughter.

But it was “on-the-spot retribution” from Scott and his daughter when Mr Donnellan received “a flurry of punches”, Mr Wright added.

Mr Donnellan spent three days in hospital having four metal plates implanted into his face.

Mr Donnellan told Bournemouth Crown Court that he and his then girlfriend were “extremely” drunk when an argument broke out.

The 52-year-old said he has no memory of the incident except from “an almighty crash on his face” and a loud click in his ear.

“I heard it in my ears and I can still hear it now,” he said.

“I couldn’t open my eyes. I thought I may have fallen over because I was so drunk. I don’t normally fall over no matter how drunk I am.”

Mr Donnellan said he had no feeling in his upper jaw, and only limited senses of taste and smell.

Defending David Scott, Robert Pawson said Mr Donnellan was “physical” and “violent” towards Amelia Scott when she emerged to defend Mr Donnellan’s ex-partner.

Mr Donnellan said he may have been but he had no recollection of the incident and that he tried to avoid confrontation.

The trial continues.
