Police have launched an investigation after a man was found with 'serious injuries' in the early hours of the morning.

Officers were called at 4.26am this morning to reports of an injured man at an property in Newbury, Gillingham.

Officers and the ambulance service attended and the man, aged in his 40s, was taken to Yeovil Hospital with a shoulder injury which is not believed to be life threatening.

The B3081 Newbury is closed in both directions between the B3092 New Road junction in Gillingham and the New Road junction in Shaftesbury.

Detectives are currently investigating the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Pete Little, of Dorset Police, said: “Following a thorough investigation a local man was arrested, but was de-arrested shortly after as we received additional information about the incident.

“Enquiries are still ongoing to establish how the man sustained his injury.

“There will be an increased police presence in Gillingham as local officers offer reassurance to the community, should they have any concerns.”
