A DRUG dealer found with £4,860 of heroin and crack cocaine in his home has been jailed.

Danny Kent was at home with his 16-year-old step-son in Rockley Road, Poole, when police entered acting on a drugs warrant on November 10 last year.

Bournemouth Crown Court heard the defendant told officers they would "find things" in his bedroom.

Prosecuting, Simon Jones said police found bags of heroin weighing 26.3g and 8.44g and 27 wraps of crack cocaine weighing 3.2g, the latter of which could be sold on the street for £10 each.

There were also scales, chemical adulterants for 'cutting' the drugs and around £1,000 in cash in a jar.

Mr Jones said Kent, 28, claimed the drugs were for personal use during his police interview, but at court he entered guilty pleas to two counts of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply.

Passing sentence, the judge, recorder Gordon Bebb QC, said: "I have accepted you were operating as a street dealer.

"There is little doubt you were dealing to fund your own habit and also to make a profit.

"You have 17 previous offences of dishonesty, violence, and one drug related. There is little doubt you are offending because of your drug use."

Kent was jailed for 40 months.

In mitigation, Kevin Hill said his client had been using drugs since the age of 19 when he mixed with "the wrong people".

Before that he had been setting out on a promising boxing career which was cut short when he sustained an elbow injury, Mr Hill said.

"He had little else to turn to after his boxing unfortunately ceased," he said.

"He has a very long term addiction. He and his family have struggled with it for years."

The judge ordered that the seized money be paid into the Dorset Police Drug Fund and the equipment and drugs be destroyed.
