A PEDESTRIAN has been injured in a collision in Bournemouth this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash, which took place in St Swithun's Road at 8.46am.

A 41-year-old man was hurt following a collision with a Land Rover, registered to a woman from Bournemouth. The man sustained a serious injury, the police said, as his left leg and ankle were fractured.

The accident took place near to the Asda superstore and traffic was seen building in the area, with the road down to a single lane on the northbound side of the carriageway of St Swithun's Road.

Officers closed the lane, diverting all northbound traffic into one lane, and also closed Old Christchurch Road, while they attended to the injured man.

The South Western Ambulance Service arrived within a short space of time and paramedics were soon seen transferring their patient to a stretcher.

An ambulance spokesman said the patient was transferred to Poole hospital.

Police re-opened the roads the moment the paramedics had moved the man to the ambulance.

A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: "We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision."
