A MAN is due to appear in court following a crash which left a wedding firm driver with life-changing injuries.

Frederik Van Harten, of the Netherlands, has received a postal requisition for the offence of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The 54-year-old is due to appear at Bournemouth Magistrates' Court tomorrow for a hearing.

Van Harten has been summonsed in connection with a road traffic collision on the Cranborne Road at Horton on Monday, August 10 last year.

A 44-year-old man travelling in a beige VW campervan decorated with flowers and bunting was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital following a collision near the Horton Inn.

It is believed the man was returning from dropping off a wedding party.

The man suffered injuries to his legs, and he was placed in intensive care at the hospital.

Three fire crews from Verwood, Wimborne and Blandford were called to the scene as part of a bid to free the Wimborne man from the wreckage of the van.

Two men travelling in a blue heavy goods vehicle sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Police closed the road between the Horton Inn and the Moor Crichel junction, as well as at the Thickthorn Crossroads, for much of the day to investigate the collision.

Officers were call at 12.24pm to reports of a crash involving two vehicles.

A spokesperson from Dorset Police said: "Frederik Van Harten, 54, of the Netherlands, has received a postal requisition for the offence of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and is due to appear before Bournemouth Magistrates’ Court on January 28 2016."

A postal requisition is the new name for a magistrates' court summons.
