A DISABLED man was left with a string of injuries after a “terrifying” assault in his own home at the hands of burglars.

Detectives have branded the attack a “violent aggravated burglary”.

They released details of the assault, which happened on Wednesday, on Friday morning.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said that detectives were now appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward.

The force said that three or four men got into the home in Morley Road, Pokesdown, at around 6pm on Wednesday.

They then assaulted the man, who is aged in his 40s.

The victim sustained injuries to his face and body as a result of the assault and was taken to hospital for treatment.

It is unknown whether or not anything was stolen from the property, police said Detective Constable Steven Davis, of Bournemouth CID, said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim.

“I am appealing to anyone who saw a group of three or four men in the area on Wednesday evening to please call me urgently.

“All calls will be treated in strict confidence.

“I would like to reassure members of the public that incidents such as this are very rare in Dorset.”

No arrests have been made as yet.

Jonathan Waddington-Jones, chief executive of Access Dorset, the disability rights organisation and a third party reporting centre for disability-related hate crime, said: “This sounds like a horrific attack. Most disabled people are perfectly safe in Dorset, but this will be unsettling for some.

"If anyone has any concerns they should contact the police or they can contact Access Dorset on 01202 771336.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 1:341.
