POLICE have arrested a man in his 30s after a stabbing in Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

Emergency services were called at 10.36pm to reports of a stabbing at an address in Cranleigh Road in Southbourne.

A 35-year-old man from Bournemouth has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “A man, aged in his 60s, was taken to hospital for treatment for stab wounds to his leg. His condition is not thought to be life threatening.”

A woman in her 50s was also treated for cuts to her hands.

On Tuesday night, officers, assisted by the NPAS helicopter, carried out a search of the area.

The victims and the arrested man are known to each other.

Resident Gemma Edwards said she first noticed something happening when she saw a police car outside her house.

“I went back into the lounge to tell my mum and we saw an ambulance parked across the road from us.

“We both became quite concerned for whoever was in the house. We stepped outside to get a better look at what was going on, and we noticed about four police officers standing outside, two with guns.”

She continued: “Within five minutes we saw a man limping out with the support of a paramedic and two police officers and he was directed into the ambulance.

“We heard a police helicopter around the area for a considerable amount of time and the police stayed around for a while.

“I find it quite shocking that something like this has happened, especially across the road because it’s usually quite a quiet street.

“I just hope the man and woman injured are ok and make a full recovery,” she added.

Another resident, Margaret Bull, said she heard the police helicopter overhead but did not see anything. “I only heard the helicopter but you often hear them in the area. I’ve lived here for nearly 15 years and it’s generally very quiet.”

Patricia Ouuen said she was surprised at the incident as the area was normally quiet. “I moved here at the end of last year and it’s not something I would have expected.

“It has been a really nice community to live in so far.”
