THE sentence handed to a teenage killer for burgling a summerhouse weeks after his release from jail will not be reviewed, it has been confirmed.

As reported in the Daily Echo, Craig Real – one of three young men who kicked Big Issue seller Ralph Millward to death five years ago – admitted burgling the property for a television just two months after leaving prison.

A district judge declined jurisdiction, believing his sentencing powers to be inadequate, but the 21-year-old was spared a prison sentence for the crime at Bournemouth Crown Court.

The decision sparked anger from Bournemouth MPs Tobias Ellwood and Conor Burns, who vowed to refer the “astonishing” sentence to the Attorney General for review.

However, a spokesperson for Jeremy Wright – who has recently replaced Dominic Grieve in the role – said action would not be taken.

“This case did not qualify for the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme,” she said.

“It was not eligible for consideration, and therefore the sentence will not be reviewed.”

A month after Real was sentenced, he returned to the court to be given another chance after breaking an order imposed by a judge.

He failed to provide his address and missed an appointment with probation officers.

Judge Peter Johnson was told Real has had difficulty finding accommodation, and decided not to revoke the order.

However, he imposed a curfew from 8pm until 6am for a month and ordered Real to pay £100 towards the costs of the hearing.

Real, along with Warren Crago and Jimmy Ayres, was given a custodial sentence for the manslaughter of Mr Millward near his pitch outside Marks and Spencer in Westbourne in 2009.

After the sustained attack, Real returned to the scene to push a shopping trolley into Mr Millward’s body as he lay fatally wounded on the ground.
