A WRISTWATCH bought for £2 in 1962 could make as much as £3,000 when it goes under the hammer at auction in Sherborne.
The gentleman’s stainless steel Tudor Submariner watch is among the items up for sale at a November auction at Charterhouse’s Long Street Salerooms.
Charterhouse’s Richard Bromell said: “The watch was bought new in 1962 by an airman carrying out his national service and he told his wife it cost him £2.
“Whether or not he was telling her a porky pie I would not like to comment, but she always thought it was fake as he paid so little for it.”
Tudor watches was launched in 1946 by Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of the Rolex Watch Company.
Charterhouse are now accepting items for their forthcoming auctions of watches, silver and jewellery, along with a special selection of wine, ports and spirits on November 20 and 21.
