MYSTERY surrounds this graffiti mural that appeared daubed on a Poole primary school building overnight.
The painting, depicting the mischievous children’s characters Bart Simpson, Dennis the Menace and Horrid Henry, appeared on a door leading onto St Mary’s Primary School’s roof earlier this week.
All three characters are pictured behind prison bars, wearing the St Mary’s school’s tie.
Speaking from the primary school campus in Devon Road, Poole, teacher Richard Howard told the Daily Echo: “We now have a ‘Banksy-style’ mural added to the top of one of the exterior parts of our school roof.
“We think it was painted on Monday night this week but we have no idea who has created it.
“We are in no way condoning this; we are certainly not happy with people getting onto the school site and being on the roof without our permission.
“It is inappropriate for a primary school setting for this to have happened.
“However, while it is certainly not appropriate for a school, we do recognise it is not simply a mindless scrawl. It is not offensive and there is a sense of humour there, and it is nicely done in the way it has been specifically put together for our school.”
Mr Howard added that the school encourages anyone with information to come forward, and it would look to work with them in a way that is appropriate for a primary school setting.
School leaders are yet to decide whether or not to remove the mural from the building.
