BOURNEMOUTH’S Pier Approach will be lit up during a special charity event as members of the public remember loved ones who have passed away.
Bournemouth Hospital Charity and Macmillan Caring Locally are inviting people to buy a light in memory of a loved one and bring it to the seafront at 7.30pm on Friday, October 24.
A minute silence will be held after the battery-operated lights have been switched on, which will be followed by a fireworks display.
Barry Wilson, events officer at Bournemouth Hospital Charity, said: “This event gives you the chance to take 30 minutes out of your day to celebrate or remember a loved one in a very special way.
“We want to light up the whole of Pier Approach with as many people and lights as possible and create a really special memory which can be cherished for a long time.”
All the names of those being celebrated or remembered will be entered into a Book of Light held at both the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospital chapels.
Lights cost £5 each and are available from the Bournemouth Hospital Charity Office, or Macmillan Caring Locally based at Christchurch Hospital.
Lights can also be bought online at bournemouthhospitalcharity .org.uk/light-prom People can also bid for a special firework to light up the name of their loved one.
Bids need to be made by 3pm on Wednesday, October 1, and can be entered online at bournemouthhospitalcharity.org/bid-name-lights or by contacting the Bournemouth Hospital Charity Office, based at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
