INVESTIGATION: Police are looking into Irene Hawkes' death
DETECTIVES investigating the death of pensioner Irene Hawkes say they are treating it as suspicious.
The body of the 82-year-old was discovered at her home in Wakely Road, Kinson, on Tuesday May 6, and now officers say they are investigating her death as they would a murder.
The address remains cordoned off while specialist forensic officers and local crime scene investigators continue their examinations.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Redstone, head of Dorset Police's Major Crime Investigation team, said yesterday: "Mrs Hawkes died as a result of injuries to her head and chest and the circumstances surrounding her death are extremely suspicious.
"Therefore, while we are keeping an open mind as to how these injuries were caused, we are investigating the death as we would investigate a murder.
"There was no sign of burglary at the address and our enquiries are continuing into how she came to receive these injuries."

The last confirmed sighting of Mrs Hawkes was on Monday April 28 and detectives are urging friends, family and anyone else who may have heard from her after that to contact them.
Mrs Hawkes was a widow and was believed to be living alone at the time of her death.
A 49-year-old Bournemouth man arrested in connection with her death has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
