NOT a sentence I ever thought I’d write, this: but I want JoeMcElderry to be number one for Christmas.

THAT’S that, then. And I won’t say “I told you so”. After last week’s blog, I could adopt a Simon Cowell-style air of smugness, but come on, did anyone not predict Geordie Joe to win?

Some observations about this weekend’s X Factor...

I’ve been so convinced for so long that Joe was going to win, that Sunday night’s X Factor final ended up being something of a long, drawn-out, formality. It was lent even more of a predictable air when Dermot handed the Geordie teenager a CD of next week’s number one single – yes, that’s right, The Climb by Joe McElderry. Yes, I know all three finalists recorded a version but it seemed a bit, well, surreal.

Why dydn’t you lyke Danyl? I liked Danyl. And once upon a time, you lot did too, before the tabloid headlines about his sex life and his bullying, and Cheryl’s relentless refusal to say anything nice to him.

I’m getting good at this. Predicting who’s going home on the Sunday night edition of X Factor I mean, not this blogging thing.

I LIKE to imagine that, behind Simon Cowell’s desk, there are a row of buttons, like the controls of some arch-villain’s lair.

SO, Britain finally tired of the six-week phenomenon that was Jedward. Either that, or the “young kids” that Louis insisted loved them finally ran out of texting credit.

YOU know what they say, be careful what you wish for. Well, some of us got an early Christmas present on Sunday night, the demise of Jedward and perhaps the return of X Factor to the singing competition we all thought it was.
