The Friday Recipe Round-Up: it's a tagine! (and some cakes. and some Marmite)

First, in honour of the extra strong Marmite released this week:

Crispy Pork Squares with Marmite Creme Fraiche.

I'm not apologising for this. I love Marmite. So there.

Got left over bananas? Bought some and forgot to eat them before they got brown and mushy? Never fear...Andy Peters (yes, him off of the broom cupboard) to the rescue with this lush loaf.

Be warned, it's served with cream and peanut butter. Not for you if you're on a diet, this one.

This morning I had a rather extraordinary chocolate fudge brownie from Giggi (part of my continuing coffee shop test, you understand). It gave me a hankering for chocolate cake recipes. I perused the interwebs, and this is what I've chosen.

Almonds, whisked eggs whites and real chocolate in the cake. Yum. But if you can do better, tell me...

Back to the savoury for the next one, and here's a thing. I'm not a fan of mushrooms. AT ALL. But I really wanted to eat this as soon as I saw it, so it had to go on the list.

Delicate salad leaves, vinegar, cheese, hazelnuts and mushrooms topped with a poached egg and a hunk of bread. yes PLEASE.

And finally. A Tagine. Chosen because I've been watching EastEnders this week (bear with me) and watching Janine reminds me of the way Frank used to say Jan-ine, which is the way we've always said tag-ine.

Anyway. You don't have to have an actual tagine (and in my experience a decent one that won't crack on your hob is quite hard to come by) because a casserole dish will do.

But if you do have a tagine (they're the cone-lidded teraccotta cooking pots on the off chance none of you know what I'm talking about) then this is an excellent excuse to use it.

This is slightly unusual in that it's less sweet than your usual tagine because of the lemons and olives. But it's a very nice twist on classic flavours.
