Although there is still some warmth in the air when the sun comes out, we have definitely turned a corner and autumn is well and truly on its way.

It’s getting dark by 8ish and the quality of the light has changed.

As a photographer, light is something I am very aware of. The harshness of the summer light, has given way to a more gentle softer light, which makes for lovely images.

My garden has an autumnal feel to it. The butternut squashes are ripening nicely.

After reading up on them, I realise that there should have been more fruits per plant. I think that is down to my sandy soil, which is going to get a great big blanket of manure when I have cleared all the plants, at the end of the season.

I have dug up one of my courgettes plants. It was a yellow variety and I used the last remaining fruits for courgette fritters. I have really enjoyed those this summer, with a dollop of onion relish or chilli dipping sauce.

I still have some baby courgettes on the green variety, which I am going to grow again next year. I much prefer the flavour of the green one to the yellow one.

After a bit of a courgette glut, I am only growing one plant next year but now they are nearly over, I am going to miss picking them and having a delicious snack in minutes.

I am picking tomatoes and turning them into tomato sauce and freezing, to enjoy long after the tomatoes are over.

Last weekend, I started to pick some sweetcorn and they were so sweet. I still have a couple of cobs left to pick, so that will be a treat for next weekend.

I have some lovely flowers still blooming their socks off. My dahlias are looking fabulous and although my white hydrangea first flowered many months ago, it is fading beautifully as it ages.

Autumn is a wonderful time of year. The colours, the crisp mornings: I hope is doesn't happening just yet.
