I had mixed feelings if I'm honest. Elation, yes. I have given my all to the ride over months. I thought of the amazing support I have had. As the elation and sad feelings flew around my head I thought of Rob. He's been at the forefront of my mind all summer and with us in spirit the whole way I'm sure.

Today we crossed into the final province of the coast to coast journey, 'Nova Scotia' (which means 'New Scotland').

Ride day 44: The fifth consectutive day of riding from Quebec City, I pedalled 94 miles from 'New Mills' to the town of 'Chatham'.

AFTER a night of stormy weather we awoke to clearer skies and warmed up with bacon, eggs and mugs of tea. I enjoyed riding along the quiet riverside road and the vista has changed dramatically once again.

SETTLING into a efficient routine with the new team, today we managed nearly 100-miles and crossed into the penultimate province of the journey.

LEAVING Quebec City we took a ferry across the huge St Laurence River and headed in a north-easterly direction towards the ‘Gaspe Peninsula’.

TODAY I was slightly ‘in limbo’ here in Quebec City: Moley and Shazza flew home yesterday and two more friends arrive shortly from the UK to support the final leg of the journey; 1000 km through New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to Halifax.

CROSSING the Ottawa River into the province of Quebec, we pedalled the remaining 60 miles to ‘Montreal’.

LEAVING the capital, we followed the Ottawa River which defines the border between the provinces of Ontario and Quebec for 60 miles to the town of Hawkesbury.

AFTER a cracking meal in a local Ottawa restaurant we enjoyed the comforts of o hotel, much appreciated after camping out for so long.

WE awoke in 'Sudbury' to grey and chilly weather. Setting off in steady rain, I covered 77 miles to the town of 'North Bay' against a strong headwind.

FOLLOWING the Ottawa River we left the forest landscape behind and found ourselves riding through farmland once again.

Over the next 10 weeks, John Dwyer will be in the saddle for 7 or 8 hours a day, biking over the Rockies, across the Praries and through Vancouver and Montreal. Why? It's in memory of a good friend, Rob Gauntlett, who inspired so many through his achievements but who died so tragically in a climbing accident this year, aged just 21.
