DRY trails and a cold night warmed by the sheer joy of cycling.

Wareham Forest was again the location of choice for Ride’s Wednesday night ride with about 30 pedallers up for some two-wheeled action along tight, narrow trails and crunchy, undulating fire roads.

Over to you, Ritchie and Jon.

“It was freezing in the car park on the industrial estate but we soon warmed up when we got in to the forest.

"Everyone thought they were underdressed, just as they had put their winter kit away for another year.

"Kim Scuse led the group along a mix of ‘swoopy’ singletrack and fire road.

“The group split at one point at a right turn and it became a case of ‘phone and find’ to bring everybody back together.

"A couple of phone calls later and we’d worked out where the riders had missed the turn.

“There were no mechanicals, and no incidents, and the trails were almost dusty until right at the end of the ride when we hit some soft, wet mud about three inches deep.”

Jon

“I led the fast group. All the usual suspects were there. We kept the pace high until about the last third of the ride when people were dropping off.

“Lloyd kept pulling alongside and then disappearing off into the distance, turning round and having to come back. He must have ridden twice as far as the rest of us.

“We had one incident where a guy tagged a log that was sticking out on to the trail. He smashed his light bracket, so we had to get out the gaffer tape and mount it on his helmet.
