THE future of Bournemouth Air Festival is not threatened by local government reorganisation, according to the council leader.

Responding to a question by Councillor Philip Stanley-Watts at a cabinet meeting yesterday (JUN 22), Cllr John Beesley said: "I don't anticipate any change at this stage for the future."

The popular annual festival, which celebrates its 10th anniversary at the end of August, is run by the council itself. Proposals have been put forward to dissolve the authority and create a new unitary council for Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch.

"In its 10th year the Air Festival has been fantastic for Bournemouth," said Cllr Stanley-Watts. "With the ongoing local government reorganisation will it continue in its format?"

Cllr Beesley said: "Indeed, I think it is universally accepted that the festival is hugely successful."
