THE winners of the 2016 Daily Echo and Castle Cameras Air Festival Photographic Competition have been announced.

On Saturday we featured the top five entries for the adult competition and the top three for the 16 and under category.

The brief for the competition was aviation for the adult entries and the spirit of the festival for the junior entries.

Adult winner Brendan Masterson, from Poole, said he was thrilled by the judges’ decision.

Brendan, aged 47, who wins £300 in Castle Camera vouchers, took an atmospheric shot of the Red Arrows, which included an outline of a ‘majestic swan’ in the jets’ smoke trails. He said: “There was a fair bit of luck in it. It was on the Sunday, I just popped down there with my family. I’d been down there a couple of days before. It was a bit overcast, then when I was reviewing all my shots, there it was. It is great news.”

“Photography is a hobby of mine, I just love getting out and about and taking pictures.”

Meanwhile, the junior winner has been confirmed as 16-year-old Tilney Gardner.

Tilney, who also captured a special moment involving the Red Arrows, said: “Thank you very much. It is amazing. The picture was just one of those which I took in the moment and it came out really well. I’ve never won anything before with my pictures.” I do photography just for fun, purely as a hobby.”

Karen Brooks, of Castle Cameras, praised all the entrants in this year’s competition.

“The junior one really stood out, the composition was beautiful.

“I think they both made the most of the bad weather, the lighting on the adult shot was really atmospheric. We saw a swan in the shape of the trails coming out of the Red Arrows. That was definitely a different take on it.”
