A RETIRED Vulcan pilot who made a scale model of the iconic bomber could see his plane feature at the Bournemouth Air Festival.

As reported by the Daily Echo yesterday, former RAF captain Cyril Carr has built a working replica powered by a 3,000 watt electric fan and featuring a 10ft wingspan.

The story prompted a swell of interest and bosses from Bournemouth Tourism are now keen to speak to the 74-year-old about bringing his plane to the town’s annual aircraft extravaganza in August.

A festival spokesman said: “We would be delighted to speak to Mr Carr and possibly invite him to display at the festival – as everyone knows we won’t have the real thing but this is certainly a great aircraft alternative.”

Mr Carr said he would be happy to discuss the practicalities of this further ahead of the festival, which runs between August 18 and 21.

Last year saw the Vulcan fly over the town for the final time before it was permanently retired in October. It was in service with the RAF between 1956 and 1984 before becoming a favourite at air festivals.
