The iconic Vulcan will make a brief second appearance at the air festival with a flypast on Saturday.

Organisers confirmed that the jet will pass through between 2pm and 3pm as it makes its way between two other events on the south coast.

The Vulcan is already set to bring the curtain down on the show on Sunday afternoon.

On Saturday the bomber will fly in both Shoreham, West Sussex, as well as Dawlish, Devon.

Air festival director Jon Weaver said: “Plans are in place for the Vulcan to fly through Bournemouth Air Festival on its way to Dawlish mid afternoon on Saturday.

"We can watch as she travels to Devon and look forward to her full display in Bournemouth on Sunday.

"Organisers are taking a responsible approach to anticipated Saturday crowds whilst giving the opportunity to see the Vulcan again.”

As reported in the Daily Echo, festival fans were disappointed to learn that the aircraft would not be on display on the Saturday over health and safety concerns.

The organisers said that, as the Saturday attracted 440,000 people last year, they couldn't accommodate both of the two biggest attractions - the Vulcan and the Red Arrows - over concerns for crowd safety.

Organisers for the air festival are working with a 'safety advisory group', which includes the emergency services, and make decision based on their advice.

Vulcan XH558 makes its final appearance in the town in its last flying season when it closes the event on Sunday.

The aircraft's appearances in recent years and in 2015 have been sponsored by Adrian Gunner of Merley House, Stephen Young, Lord of Westbury and Waxham, and the Vulcan to the Sky Team Bournemouth.

The founder and chief executive of the team, Dr Robert Pleming, will attend the air festival to watch the final flight on Sunday.

As part of his visit, he will spend time at the John Thornton Young Achievers hospitality tent on the seafront.

Members of Vulcan to the Sky have also donated a print to the Ferndown charity's fundraising auction.
