MP Annette Brooke welcomes park homes bill

MP Annette Brooke has welcomed progress in park homes legislation aimed at cracking down on sale blocking.

The second reading of Peter Aldous MP’s Bill on Mobile Homes passed through to committee stage on Friday after winning support from all political parties in the House of Commons. During a speech in the chamber, the Mid Dorset and North Poole MP praised her constituent, Wareham woman Sonia McColl, for setting up the national Park Home Owners’ Justice Campaign.

She also cited an example of £15,000 being offered for a home that could have gone for £150,000 on the open market, adding: “I am delighted to see this bill progress.”

Crusading Mrs McColl collected thousands of signatures from park home residents, claiming that the problem of ‘unscrupulous’ park owners had reached ‘epidemic’ proportions in the UK.

This is clearly a very important matter, but it came to be debated because of the success of the mover of the bill in a ballot for private members bills.not because.; it was recognised by the Government as requiring legislation

The procedures for private members bills are, in my view, quite archaic and frequently are talked out on a Friday or put down for second reading on a day when the House will not sit .and if the bill gets a third reading it will then go to an unelected upper house for amendment or approval.

It rather sounds as though Peter Aldous MP and local lady Sonia McColl did all the hard work on this important matter reported - so well done them.

So the headline "MP Annette Brooke welcomes park homes bill" is a little inappropriate perhaps. But then some politicians would welcome a dead autumn leaf landing on their door step if there was a headline in it!

Brooke would do far better getting something done about the monstrously offensive landfill site at Corfe Mullen! From the so-called 'viewpoint' all that can be seen are diggers, rubbish, seagulls and flies, reaching to the skies. Come on Brooke, pull your finger out!
