Councillor: Gambling should be limited for town's own good

A Bournemouth councillor wants access to gambling limited for the public's "own good"

Queen's Park councillor Cheryl Johnson was making a written comment on a proposed gambling policy for Bournemouth.

She wrote: “In my view gambling is a dangerous as any drug.

“Gaming machines should be as low a prize as possible. £100 is plenty.

“There is nothing sadder than watching someone fixed on a fruit machine.

“Casino’s – fine but two in the town is plenty. If people find chucking their money away an entertainment then the opportunity to do it has to be limited for their own good.”

The licensing board considered comments from various bodies and agreed to submit the 34-page policy document to the full council meeting on October 30.

Excellent logic. Let's carry it a step further:

Bars – fine but two in the town is plenty. If people find pouring alcohol down their throats an entertainment then the opportunity to do it has to be limited for their own good.

Clothing shops – fine but two in the town is plenty. If people find wasting money on clothes an entertainment then the opportunity to do it has to be limited for their own good.

Fast food chains – fine but two in the town is plenty. If people find buying unhealthy foods an entertainment then the opportunity to do it has to be limited for their own good.

Hotels – fine but two in the town is plenty. If people find having illicit rendezvous an entertainment then the opportunity to do it has to be limited for their own good.

Petrol stations – fine but two in the town is plenty. If people find driving their cars an entertainment then the opportunity to do it has to be limited for their own good.

Can we change the headline to "Councillors should be limited for town's own good" would be much more beneficial to the town and the tax payer.
Im not a gambler but each to their own eh love?

Echo, please don't correct your corrupt headline to this story, i.e.
'Councillor: Gambling should be limited for town's own good'

Surf Reef, IMAX, Master Visions....as the Councillor said: ' If people find chucking their money away an entertainment, then the opportunity to do it must be limited for their own good.'

THIS IS EVEN TRUER, COUNCILLOR, WHEN YOU ARE CHUCKING OTHER PEOPLES' MONEY AWAY!

Perhaps the Councillor should practice what she preaches by voting against the Council gambling £millions of taxpayers money on badly thought through and managed projects like spending £8.5m buying back the Imax only to demolish it, and £3m on a surf reef and the £millions wasted in Boscombe on initiatives which may have created a number on non-jobs but have done little to improve the area.
.
And the list goes on.

How dare she!
After the council have gambled £millions of taxpayers money in recent times on ill thought through and dodgy projects.
We believe most of you at the Town Hall are fools at best, don't open your mouths like this and prove it!

I love the casino. Every time I go in one I like to pretend i'm a councillor. Everytime I win I think, "there's some money from dave wells" or when I loose it's "oops theres goes £3M on a surf reef"

Ms. Johnson, why do you believe you have the right to dictate your clouded views on everybody, was that in your manifesto when you were elected to the council, as many have pointed out the record of this council is at best faulty, at worst some say criminal, why do you not resign and seek re-election on your stupid views and let us all make our own minds up.
