A31 down to single lane after crash

A TOYOTA van crashed into the central reservation of the A31 in the New Forest and overturned near Picket Post at 3pm today.

The Air Ambulance was called out and the male driver was initially trapped in his vehicle by the gorse - but he did not suffer serious injuries.

Hampshire Police closed the Westbound carriageway a mile before Poulner Hill but reopened a lane soon afterwards.

A South Central Ambulance Service spokesman said the man was taken to Southampton Hospital with suspected chest pains.

The vehicle was removed from the scene and the road fully reopened by around 4.20pm.

"Suspected chest pains?" What does that mean?

Tig, "Suspected chest pains" doesn't mean anything... It's just the usual sloppy journalism from the 2nd eleven that run the Echo... Can't be bothered to see if what they write makes any sense. My pet chickens could write better copy than this.

"A31 down to single lane after crash"

Dunno why we don't just build another carriageway and let all those who want to have an accident do it in the privacy of their own lane.

Would save all those wasted manhours stuck in traffic.

Alternatively put up signs saying that you can only have an accident when there is a full moon with an 'r' in the month!

The amount of accidents on this stretch of the A31 are incredible.....espec
ially with vehicles overturning. Is it because of excessive speed? Road condition? Or bad driving.? Or a combination of these.
The A31 is going to get a reputation as one of the dodgiest roads in the UK at this rate.
