10,000 west Bournemouth homes given fast broadband

BT says it has now connected 10,000 homes in west Bournemouth to its superfast broadband system.

The firm is installing fibre optic cables across the town – a rival plan to the CityFibre scheme, formerly known as Fibrecity.

The new connections will be offering internet download speeds of 80 to 320Mbps.

The Cityfibre scheme is claiming peak speeds of 1,000Mbps.

BT said it had now connected 62,000 Bournemouth properties in Winton, Southbourne and Boscombe.

It is planning to connect 11,000 more in central Bournemouth later this year and 10,000 in Northbourne next year.

The firm is using a mix of cable connection types.

The Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) method uses conventional cable in the final link between the street cabinet and the property and has a maximum speed of 80Mbps.

The quicker Fibre to the Property connection using fibre optic cables throughout and BT said it will hit up to 320Mbps.

Anyone found any information on these 320Mbps products? Hunting all over the BT site but can't see anything. Highest I can find is 100Mbps and that's not available...
