Police clampdown on commercial vehicles

POLICE staged an operation to clampdown on commercial vehicles committing road offences in Dorset and Hampshire.

Traffic units from the two forces joined staff from the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency to check vehicles travelling on the A31 and A338 Spur Road on Thursday.

A total of 57 commercial vehicles were stopped and 31 – 54 per cent - were found to be in breach of legislation.

Nine were deemed sufficiently dangerous to be prohibited from further use until the defect was rectified or the driver had taken sufficient rest.

Sgt Sarah Jones, from Dorset Police Traffic Unit, said: “It is disappointing that so many of the commercial vehicles checked were found to have offences.

“Dorset Police will continue to target drivers and vehicles such as these to improve the safety of all road users.”
