Headteacher's "regret" at lollipop lady incident

A HEADTEACHER has expressed her “deep regret” after a parent allegedly swore at a lollipop lady.

Vivienne Arkell wrote about the incident in an October newsletter for Pokesdown Primary School.

She said: “We are so lucky to have Mrs Hazel Greaves as our lollipop lady in Southbourne Road and so I was very sad to hear a parent had caused her great distress.

“Parents and children have to cross in front of the lollipop lady and on being reminded of this the parent swore at her in front of children.

“This is not acceptable and I hope the parent concerned apologises for their behaviour.

“Other parents witnessed the shouting and kindly informed school so that we could take action.

“I have expressed my deep regret to Mrs Greaves,” she added.

The language used by some parents on the school run is appalling. We walk to Kings Park Primary and often hear pedestrains yelling at drivers and drivers yelling at pedestrains and the air turns blue. It's totally unacceptable and means I have to explain to my children over again that just because other people swear doesn't mean they can. It is no kind of example to be setting our youngsters and no wonder kids grow up with so little respect for others. A sorry state of affairs - but sadly just the tip of the iceberg I'm afraid.

I blame that pesky Imax and lets face it, it was probably brought on by dog walkers and those dangerous cyclists.

No one seems concerned by the ever-falling standards - which is how we've ended up in this sorry state.
People in general are scumbags nowadays and there is only a decent minority. Its a shame.

Oh indeed, a fellow member of the decent minority.
I salute you !

It only takes one isolated incident such as this to reflect badly on the excellent reputation upheld by the majority of pupils and parents at Pokesdown School. The school instills high standards of courtesy and consideration from pupils and parents to the neighbouring community and by respectfully acknowledging that this behaviour is unacceptable and apologising means we can learn and move on.
In my opinion I don't feel it a newsworthy story and the Echo site could be better used to broadcast more important community issues that need to be publicised.

Too many people think theyre a cut above everyone else.
Talk about the 'Moral Majority'!

'I shant be putting my childs name down, for this school!'
No.Rather go to church foe 6 weeks so you can pretend youre 'Of The Faith' to get kids into a good Church School.
I find being hypocritical & snobby far worse than a few unsavoury words.
I've experienced the other kind of 'clique'.Those who think they're 'special' & look down their noses at everyone on the 'School Run'.I find that far more offensive & a worse example to set.

Funny. Those who live in certain areas of Southbourne have this 'vision' that they're of better upbringing.No.Just more in debt to the bank no doubt, as they have to keep up with the Joneses.Must be amazing having pooh that doesnt stink?

Should this happen again, I sincerely hope Mrs Greaves doesn't take this kind of abuse without retaliation. She should remove the 'Stop, Children' sign from the end, and use the stick it in the style of a Japanese martial arts 'bo' or staff. If you imagine the final fight scenes with Darth Maul in Star Wars Episode 1, 'The Phantom Menace', this is the kind of action I have in mind.

6 weeks? Try 12 months. You've obviously got a complex issue and a chip on your shoulder that is more harmful to a child than swearing or being around snobs!

What does someone who is looking down on everyone do/look like on a school run? Have they got a nicer car than you? Boo hoo, grow up.
