THE first category winner in a competition celebrating the beauty and diversity of Poole Harbour has been presented with his prize.

The Daily Echo joined forces with Poole Harbour Commissioners to seek your images of the unique richness of the area, from its amazing wildlife to the fantastic opportunities it offers for leisure use – and its vital commercial role. Entries have been showcased daily in the Have Your Say section of the newspaper, revealing the talent and artistry of our local amateur and professional photographers.

Winners of each of the four categories – water activities, wildlife, photographic professionals and under 21s – are being given a Go Pro camera and a place at Poole Harbour Commissioners’ open evening next month, where the overall winner will be presented with an iPad3. The winner of the water activities category was Steve Beard of Broadstone, whose stunning sailing shot impressed judges.

Steve, director of Poole’s Hobie Cat Centre sailing school, said: “We are thrilled to have won the competition and to receive a Go Pro Camera.

“We have the first edition already but to have two cameras will be a huge bonus to the business.”

This month's theme is wildlife and nature, and the prize is a day trip to Jersey or Guernsey courtesy of Condor Ferries.
