“THE children were absolutely in awe.”

That was the reaction when Paralympian Sarah Storey visited Springdale First School in Broadstone.

She won four cycling gold medals at London 2012 in the C5 class, and is so far ahead of her rivals she almost made the cycling team for the Olympic games. Sarah was invited to the school by teacher Simone Cunliffe – one of her former swimming team mates.

Ruth Leach, the school’s headteacher, said: “Sarah and her husband talked to the children at assembly about the races and also the importance of having a team and going for it.

“It was a very good message, about trying your best. Then they visited each class so that they could talk to the children personally.

“The children and the adults were absolutely in awe. It was a wonderful experience.”
