Lifesavers will go head to head on Boscombe beach

ATHLETES from across Europe will come to Boscombe beach next weekend to compete in lifesaving watersports.

Surf Life Saving GB has organised the event, which tests the kind of skills in the water used by volunteer lifeguards.

Competitors will race on rescue boards and in surf skiing, and also in an open water swim.

Teams of Inshore Rescue Boats will also compete. There will be teams from New Zealand, Denmark, Poland and Germany.

During the event spectators can also try out stand up paddle boarding and take part in a charity race.

Esther Pearson, chief executive of Surf Life Saving GB, said: “In 2011 we had a fantastic time with great weather and marvellous crowds – but this year the event promises to be even better.”
