Bournemouth named UK's best resort Bournemouth named UK's best resort

BOURNEMOUTH saw off competition from Blackpool, Great Yarmouth and Weymouth to scoop the title of Best UK Resort at an awards ceremony in Bournemouth last night.

The resort was awarded the accolade by readers of leading travel title Group Leisure magazine.

Active travel organisers from sports and social clubs, retired associations, special interest societies and other groups voted for their favourites in 21 different categories, including UK resort, UK city, airline and international destination.

Cllr Rod Cooper, tourism, leisure and culture portfolio holder at Bournemouth council, said: “On behalf of everyone in Bournemouth I am delighted to accept this award. We are looking forward to welcoming groups to Bournemouth as they continue to enjoy the beauty and diversity of our unique seaside resort.”

This is just industry back-patting nonsense.

I think I prefer the stablemate to Group Leisure Magazine, it's called Meat Management Magazine. I'm not joking.

Meat Management Magazine gave their award to the Bournemouth Night-Time Economy Co-ordinator

If Rod Cooper just stopped for a moment and thought about the readership of the magazine that has made this award he'd realise that the other resorts are probably relieved not to have won.
.
This magazine represents the bottom end of the tourism industry and the award clearly demonstrates Bournemouths decline in that it now celebrates being crowned best resort for low cost coach holidays

So you think the worlds tallest dwarf isn't proud of his award? Surely better to be the best of a bad bunch than the worst of a bad bunch

Woo. Were number one. Even the mighty Great Yarmouth, vanquished by Bournemouth's uber-resortyness. The town is obviously practically perfect in every way. Council : have a few weeks off, you are obviously doing a great job. Rest on those laurels.

This has to be a wind up, Weymouth is much better than Bournemouth, Blackpool is brill, both have many more attractions as Bournemouth.
Whoever voted Bournemouth for this needs a guide dog.

Group Leisure Magazine, probably the worst resort indicator ever seen on our bookshelfs. It would not know a good resort from a bad one. And giving Bournemouth the top slot just proves that. There are far better resorts along our coasts, including Weymouth, Lyme Regis, Bridport, Swanage, and many more further afield.
.
Bournemouth offers nothing to the visitor unless one enjoys a blooming good night out, ending in fights, vomitting over the square, or trying to find something to occupy oneself during the day. Nothing to offer except a Surf Reef that does not work, sport facilities that have yet to be open to the general public without heavy costs, and no venues for indoor activities subject to the weather we have had lately.
.
Rod Cooper it is high time you came down from the clouds where you live and see the real Bournemouth. If you hold the seat for tourism in this town, then do something about it. We do not want awards, we want a town enjoyed by many visitors, with many things to occupy their time.

Next year, Bournemouth will see off a challenge from Cromer...and Bridlington.
