Broadstone toilet stab wound probe is called off

POLICE are no longer investigating an incident where a woman suffered stab wounds in a Broadstone toilet.

The community was left reeling following the incident at the end of June when a 52-year-old woman emerged from the ladies toilets on Macaulay Road, just off the Broadway, bleeding claiming she had been robbed and stabbed.

But following investigations and interviews with the woman the police told the Echo yesterday: “This incident is no longer being investigated as the complaint proved to be unfounded.”

The Echo understands the injuries suffered by the woman were self inflicted.

The incident happened on a Saturday afternoon when the woman was helped by shocked passers-by and taken away in an ambulance.

At the time police had appealed for witnesses and information, and even released a description of a woman they wanted to speak with.
