THOUSANDS of people flocked to a Christchurch community centre on Saturday for a novelty dog show.

Crowds packed the event at Mudeford Wood Community Centre, Pipers Drive, to watch classes including fancy dress, best pedigree, prettiest bitch and even scruffiest dog.

Monies raised will be split between the Mudeford Wood Community Trust, which has taken over running of the centre, and the Medical Detection Dogs charity.

Event spokesman Kathy Roe said: “It was very popular and we had lots of people turning up.

“There must have been at least a couple of thousand over the course of the afternoon.

“I would say the fancy dress dogs were the crowd favourites.

“I saw one dog dressed as Superman, and another dressed as a bumble bee.”

There were even a couple of pooches dressed as if they were going on a hen-do, complete with ‘L’ plates.

Miss Roe said: “I’d like to thank all the people who came along with their dogs and entered, the stall-holders, all the local companies that sponsored each of the 13 categories and everyone else who supported us.”
