Sea Vixen won't be appearing at this year's Bournemouth Air Festival

BOURNEMOUTH Air Festival organisers have confirmed that the Sea Vixen, which is based at Hurn airport, will not be taking part in this year’s event as planned.

It said that “operational difficulties, surrounding the display certification” were to blame.

The jet had been set to perform with the Miss Demeanour Hunter jet in a display unique to Bournemouth.

Organisers said they were hoping to welcome the Sea Vixen back next year and were looking to bring in another vintage jet in time for the event, which begins on Thursday, August 30.

The Sea Vixen was involved in an incident at Bournemouth Airport earlier this year. The undercarriage collapsed on landing and the aircraft has not flown since.

Breaking News.....The Organisers have replaced the Sea Vixen with, wait for it, the Sea Gulls!

Syncronised chip & ice cream stealing aplenty, all day long! ;-)

(Rumour has it that the Wasp's may appear too!)

I suppose the Vulcan will be cancelling next. I'm not bothered this year. Same aircraft and displays every year and those that are different or the headline acts are pulled at the last moment.

Pity. The Sea Vixen usually makes my windows rattle, which I still find quite thrilling. (OK, OK, I know I really should get out more!...)

Used to remind me of Concorde - which was also was also the glazer's friend.

I'm actually surprised it's taken this long for an admittance that it wouldn't be appearing tbh.

There's been no sign of it doing any test flights or display practices in recent months and the permit to fly ran out near the end of June and doesn't appear to have been renewed yet.

I'm sad it wont be there, but really not surprised in the slightest. Not sure what you can replace it with though, as apart from the Vulcan there's no other privately owned jet warbirds that will come close to producing the noise of the Sea Vixen. Such a shame.

I don't really mind which aircraft are appearing, I just hope that it's a successful few days for Bournemouth, the weather's good and above all that we don't witness a repeat of last years's air crash tragedy.

Totally agree. I'm looking forward no matter what.

Plenty to see and do.

I dont know of anywhere else that you can watch aircraft fly past almost at eye level with you if you're standing on the cliff. I think Bmth have done it very well over the years. Remember we can only have what the military has available so as much as we'd all like to see particular aircraft sometimes the lives of our troops who depend on these aircraft elsewhere is more important than entertaining us.

This year is especially important for the Reds and we should be there showing them our support and gratitude. Anyone who disagrees with me should leave town.

The late 50's Farnborough Air Shows can never be repeated that is what many have missed , we try emulate them but that is now impossible and those days will never return, more is the pity.
I also saw the D Day air armarda but hopefully we never want anything like that again .

I loved the airshow the first couple of years however the last two years the weather has been awful with no new additions to the afternoon lineups, forecast already starting to look iffy at best for next weekend and planes already starting to pull, unless something rapidly changes i'll probably end up giving it a miss :-(

It has become boring compared to other air shows, not enough high powered planes now.
With the loss of Harriers, the Vulcan is always ill and now the Vixen in hospital we are not left with much to take your breath away, who wants to see a Cessna fly past, boring, the only highlights are the battle of Britain flight and the reds, roll on Farnborough Air Show 2014.
